So after a busy summer of travel and work, I’ve finally gotten around to write about our honeymoon! I left Vancouver and flew to Amsterdam via
Air Transat on June 23 and from Amsterdam opted for a quick flight over to Paris. There were strikes planned for train service so took the flight instead of the train into Paris. Upon arrival at Charles de Gaulle Marc was waiting for me!
A quick metro trip into the City, we popped out at our stop, only to get lost one of the many times over the 4 day
s we spent in Paris. I found a great deal on a room just a short walk from the Eiffle Tower. As for most european hotel rooms, it was ‘quaint’. The hotel itself was a great, the most amazing service from the front desk agent at Hotel Eiffle Park.
We had bought tickets to see Jack Johnson, but had no idea how to get there. So after a quick nap and shower, we headed back down to the lobby to find that she had printed out detailed maps and got us a transit map for Paris.
Seeing Jack was a fantastic way to kick off the Honeymoon, it was a really unique venue and met several other
Canadians. We didn’t get to hear our wedding song, but really enjoyed the concert with most of the music played from the new album.
We spent the rest of time in Paris, doing the normal tourist trap activities; The Eiffle Tower, Hop on Hop off on the Rouge Bus and walking down the Champs Elysees. One of my favorite afternoons was spent sipping on Rose at lunch while people watching in a small neighbourhood just off the ‘Champs’.
We had pre purchased our tickets for the Eiffel Tower, so no waiting in line! There were some interesting characters down below, including the dreaded Gypsies, and extra Military Security. Up top we were treated to a glass of Champagne, a Wedding Gift from my Great Aunt Bev and Uncle Bob.
A memorable dinner (one of the many we had while away), was at this restaurant that was completely hidden from the street, one we would not have found without again the friendly help from a front desk agent at our hotel. We showed up without reservations, but were pleasantly entertained by the 40’s style Big Band playing and the friendly host who provided Champagne while we waiting and earnestly topped up whenever we were low.
